Death Of 3 Doors Down Ex-Guitarist Matt Roberts Linked To Illegal Drugs, Doctor Indicted For His Prescriptionrescribed Illegal Drugs?

Court documents show that an Alabama doctor is sued due to the death of the longtime 3 Doors Down guitarist Matt Roberts. It was revealed that Dr. Richard Snellgrove was accused of prescribing illegal drugs to Matt Roberts.

Dr. Snellgrove of Fairhope, Alabama was said to give his prescriptions of Fentanyl intended for opioid pain medication and another drug which are taken days before Matt Roberts was found dead in August. It was found out that the cause of his death was due to the overdose of these drugs.

The unsealed records revealed that the 59 year old Doctor is charged of a six-count federal indictment last month. However, the charges are not publicized until they are unsealed by a judge last week according to a report in USA today.

The representative of Dr. Snellgrove Dennis Knizley defended him saying that he has not done something wrong. He further claimed that if the death of Matt Roberts is connected to the medication prescribed by the Doctor, then it would be attributed to improper use, not to Dr. Snellgrove.

Matt Roberts was only 38 years old when he died and he used to live in Spanish Fort, Alabama, near Mobile. Darrell Roberts Sr., the father of Matt, told DEA officer Michael Burt that his son used to call the Doctor as "Snelly". He also said that the Doctor is a celebrity junkie and his son and the doctor are close enough that Matt Roberts would receive after hours appointment with him, which went on for almost 12 years.

Robert was found dead outside his hotel room a day before his charity performance in Wisconsin according to a report in Billboard. Two days earlier, he was seen wearing a Fentanyl patch and having pills that are prescribed by Dr. Snellgrove.

Last September, records from the two offices of Dr. Snellgrove were seized and evidence shows that these drugs were illegally prescribed by him six times since 2011.The agent said that Fentanyl and Norco were considered as aggravating factors of the musician's death. It should be remembered that earlier this year, the rock musician Prince death was also due to the use of Fentanyl.

Matt Roberts used to be a member of the Mississippi-based rock band credited for co-writing "Kryptonite" but left the group due to health reasons. Court documents revealed that he actually fought abuse of substances before his death.
