Sly Cooper Movie Announced, Helmed By TMNT Director [TRAILER]

Sly Cooper Movie Announced [TRAILER]

Sly Cooper gets no respect. Although he's the star of what's arguably the best Playstation-exclusive series many write him off, his last PS3 and Vita title released with hardly any fanfare from Sony. But things may be changing now that THR has announced that he'll be the star of his very own movie, one helmed by Kevin Munroe, the director of 2007's "TMNT".

Munroe will be writing and directing the simply titled "Sly Cooper", which will feature animation from Rainmaker and Blockade Entertainment. Blockade's CEO Brad Foxhoven and VP development David Wohl will produce along with Rainmaker's Kim Dent Wilder. Rainmaker and Blockade are actually currently in production on a film adaptation of Ratchet & Clank, one of the other great Playstation-exclusive franchises. Footage from both films will be shown in February at the European Film Market in Berlin.

They're hoping for an early 2016 release for "Sly Cooper". There's already an official Facebook page up for the film, which has the following official synopsis up:

"Sly Cooper is a kinetic and comedic heist film that tells the story of Sly Cooper, an orphaned raccoon thief, along with his childhood friends and partners in crime, Bentley Turtle and Murray Hippo. In the film, Sly learns of his birth family's secret legacy; that he comes from a long line of talented and international thieves.

Endowed with this knowledge, Sly and his friends are catapulted into a global adventure as they race to reassemble pieces of an ancient book holding The Cooper Clan's family secrets before it can fall into the hands of Clockwerk – an evil Russian metallic owl bent on ending the Cooper family line. From romantic Parisian backdrops to the lush mountains of China, gritty film noir meets bright, colorful graphic novels in this origin story of the world's greatest thief-turned-hero."

Sly Cooper was already a very cinematic series, a really fun and clever one, and it certainly seems like it has potential to be a great film, especially since the voice actors are all in and the sense of humor seems intact from the trailer. This plot itself is lifted directly from the first game, which is included in the fantastic Sly Cooper Collection, which really is a must-buy for PS3 owners. Not only do you get three genuinely terrific games, you get beautiful HD versions of them, full of trophies and minigames and all that good stuff. The latest release, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, is a worthy follow-up to the original trilogy, with Playstation Vita Cross-Play and Cross-Buy functionality adding a huge bonus.
