Long has Activision been quite loyal to its Xbox fanbase when it comes to the publisher's signature shooter, Call of Duty, a tradition the company has been keen to continue with Ghosts by offering the game's DLC as a timed exclusive. However, Activision might want to rethink its strategy in the months to come, because if an "insider" is to be believed, CoD players on PlayStation are set to eclipse their Microsoft counterparts.
Enter Pete "Famousmortimer" Dodd, a frequently quoted insider with a pretty impressive track record of accurate information. Most recently, he claimed that claiming that Titanfall helped increase Xbox One's total unit sales by close to a million, and look how that turned out.
The Call of Duty franchise has been associated with the Xbox brand for quite a while, but something may be changing, as gathered by industry insider Pete "Famousmortimer" Dodd, that normally has a good track record with what his industry sources share with him. To provide an example, he was the one that first mentioned the difference in resolution of Call of Duty: Ghosts between PS4 and Xbox One.
Earlier today, DualShockers took notice of yet another tasty tidbit Dodd made mention of NeoGAF:
"I'm not ready to jump on the XB1 is doomed train yet. Titanfall, or really any game, can turn the fortunes, but as of now - yes, good start but valid concerns. The PS4 is above and beyond all projections and publishers are re-calibrating to this. I heard that Activision is going to make a public announcement about COD changing to the PS4 as lead platform. I have no idea if this means DLC (I assume MS locked that down for multiple years) but COD was a XBOX 360 game that happened to be on the ps3 last gen. That will be a hugely symbolic move... and don't discount what that means to the masses."
Hard to say whether or not this is true, but it's important to note that the amount of PS4 CoD players has had its spikes. It's better to be safe and wait on this supposed announcement from the publisher.
