#SteamSpotlight Feature: Papers, Please
Papers, Please is a puzzle simulation game released almost a decade ago on August 9, 2013. Developed by Lucas Pope and published by 3909, it has also be ported to the PlayStation Vita in 2014.
As already mentioned, you take on the role of an immigration inspector in this game. But what is the premise that you have to work with as you play?
According to the game's Steam page, the story of Papers, Please revolves around the communist state of Arstotzka. Arstotzka has just ended a six-year war with a neigboring state known as Kolechia. Because of that, Arstotzka has claimed its side of a border town called Grestin.
Given the general nature of the job of an immigration, you probably have an idea what is expected from you in this game.
"Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia," its Steam page says.
What You Have to Know About Your Job
The war may be over, but that does not mean that danger does not lurk anymore. One of the crucial parts of your role as an immigration inspector in Papers, Please is that you need to be able to spot the bad guys among all the immigrants and vistors trying to get into Arstotzka.
This means you must detect spies, terrorists, and smugglers among those seeking entrance into the state. So what exactly do you use for your job? Honestly, do not expect much. Why?
Its Steam page says it best: "Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission's primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested."

Papers, Please has more than 45,000 user reviews on Steam as of press time. These reviews are generally described as "Overwhelmingly Positive" by the platform.
A Steam user who goes by the handle ImmortalBard says that Papers, Please is "possibly the best PC game of 2013 I've played" in a review. ImmortalBard also describes it as "a work of video game brilliance."
Another Steam user who goes by the name Pretend I am GLaDOS praises Papers, Please in a separate review for its immersive story, minimalistic art, and music.
