Often considered as the best game in the long-running Wolfenstein series by Bethesda, The New Order is actually a soft reboot of a franchise that had its low point during the early 2000s, writes PCWorld. When New Order came out in 2014, it was met with favorable reviews from both critics and fans alike.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is free on Epic Games until June 9th. And like every other giveaway before it, the game is yours to keep forever after claiming it - no time-limited trial shenanigans here. To get the game, all you have to do is log into your Epic Games account, go to the Store Page for New Order, and add it to your library.

New Order follows Bioshock: The Collection as the weekly free game on Epic - something that the platform has offered since 2018. The platform started with two free games back in December 2018: Super Meat Boy and Subnautica, writes FanByte. Their original plan was also to just give one free game every two weeks from 2018 to 2019, but the frequency was bumped up to a free game every week starting June 2019.

But the release of Wolfenstein: The New Order might not have been something that some internet users foresaw, as said by a certain Redditor a day prior to the reveal of the freebie.

As reported by GameRant, Redditor kabirsingh84 on the Epic Games subreddit first thought that the free game would either be GTA Vice City from the Definitive Edition, or perhaps the entire GTA Definitive Edition Trilogy. They stated some "clues" that pointed to the trilogy being released, including the fact that the compilation recently left PlayStation Now last May 2nd.

Well, the theory is obviously wrong - which could be testament to Epic's handling of leaks. The game industry is one full of leaks, but Tim Sweeney and company seem to be on top of their game when it comes to keeping things under wraps.

Is It Worth Getting Wolfenstein: The New Order?

The short answer is yes. As previously mentioned, the game released to great reviews back in 2014 from both critics and fans.

In IGN's review, they praised New Order for its great blend of shoot-em-up gameplay and quality writing, which features a cast of well-written characters. It can be easy for a game like this to just excel at one of the two, but New Order seems to have the two in spades. Its overall narrative is based on the simple alternate history take of what if the Nazis won WW2, and what would've been the fallout of that happening.

Their only gripes with the game is that its dual-wielding system needs a touch-up and is clunky at best. This then leads to GamesRadar's cons against it in their review, where the gunplay proved to be tough to handle when trying to fight several high-powered enemies at once.

Either way, GamesRadar's review still praised Wolfenstein: The New Order's overall gunplay mechanics, which when combined with memorable setpiece moments and great characters is an apparent joy to behold.
