Massive Spike in Player Count Might Signal Redfall's Resurgence

Redfall had a rocky start, to say the least, but developer Arkane Studios didn't give up on its vampire shooter. With the release of an update in early November, players have started picking the game up. Could this be the start of Redfall's resurgence?

Mostly Positive

What is currently happening to Redfall is quite interesting. When looking at the game's recent reviews, it is now marked "Mostly Positive" on Steam. This is possibly due to the release of an update that included a new weapon and some gameplay improvements a couple of weeks ago.

Some players left positive reviews on Steam, with some sharing their experiences with it. User @hawkhill said that although the game's storytelling leaves much to be desired, there are a few things that players can enjoy.

First is the game's atmosphere. User @hawkhill said that the game's setting has "a lot of personality in general." Because of how good the in-game atmosphere is, players can be left wondering what life was like before disaster struck.

Next, the said user pointed out that the gunplay is very satisfying, particularly when it comes to the sound the weapons produce and the feeling of shooting at enemies.

Then, they mentioned that the game should definitely be played with others to enjoy the full experience. Indeed, Redfall was billed as a multiplayer co-op shooter. It would be interesting to see how the game will fare if there are enough people to play with.

Some people on Reddit also share the same sentiment. Redditor @chriswick_ admitted that they stopped playing the game when it was first released in May. But, they came back recently and they're now having a blast.

Another Redditor said that they got the game for cheap thanks to a recent sale. They have also emphasized how smoothly the game runs now on Xbox, with a constant 60 frames per second without a hitch. If Arkane Studios could just add matchmaking so that players can find other people to play with, then the game could enjoy some sort of resurgence in the future.

That said, Redfall's Steam Charts data show some signs of life. It had a 58.64% gain in the past 30 days, with an average player count of 33 and a peak of 181. Compared to th game's all-time peak of 1,560 players, it seems that the game is headed in the right direction.

More to Come

Players who purchased the Bite Back Deluxe Edition of Redfall are promised two new DLC characters as part of "The Hero Pass." In the patch notes for the game's recent update, Bethesda Studios stated that information about the new heroes will be released sometime next year.

For those who haven't played the vampire shooter in a while, the company added a new Unrivaled Weapon called "The Basilisk," which has the power to petrify vampires hit by the first bullet in a full magazine. Aside from that, the game is more stable than ever before, so players are less likely to encounter performance issues, particularly on Xbox.

With the recent changes and improvements made to the game, do you think that Redfall will have a successful comeback?

Redfall is available on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
