Apex Legends: Catalyst's Piercing Spikes Receives a Major Change That Leaves Fans Disappointed

The big update for Apex Legends is expected to arrive very soon. Aside from the much-awaited Final Fantasy Rebirth crossover event, the upcoming content patch will implement various balancing changes. One change, in particular, does not sit well with fans, especially those who main Catalyst.

Nerfed Again

Catalyst is one of the Legends in the game who was once considered S-Tier because of her amazing kit. Her tactical ability, Piercing Spikes, enables her to throw some "black goo," as people from the community would call it, to sort of act like a detector. That is because when an opponent is within 10 meters of the goo, it will move toward their direction, and then it turns into damaging spikes that also slow their advance.

Many Catalyst players back then would throw Piercing Spikes to see if an enemy was close by. This is probably not what the developers have intended because the upcoming patch nerfs Piercing Spikes. So, what will change? Well, Catalyst's tactical ability now requires line-of-sight to an enemy player before it is activated. This means that players can no longer use it as a way to detect members of the opposing team without establishing LoS first.

This nerf has upset some fans of Catalyst, with one player saying that the change is completely unnecessary. Another person said that the spikes are useless now since they can no longer be used to scout for enemies.

The new update for Apex Legends is set to implement other balancing changes as well. For one, the Mastiff will receive some buffs to its reload speed and draw time. Besides that, the R99 and CAR SMG have their damage reduced to 11 and 12, respectively.

In terms of Legends, Newcastle's "Castle Wall" ability is now capable of destroying Conduit's Energy Barricade mines. On top of that, the balancing adjustments for Newcastle that were delayed from Season 19 will be fully integrated in the upcoming patch. These changes include reduced recovery time on landing and increased max leap height for Castle Wall.
