‘Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’ Adds Denuvo DRM Ahead of Launch, Sparks PC Performance Concerns

‘Lego’ fans on Reddit have not been happy about the Denuvo DRM on ‘Batman.’

TT Games and Warner Bros. Games have quietly implemented Denuvo anti-tamper DRM in "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight" just weeks before its official release.

The game is scheduled to launch on May 22, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. However, the last-minute addition of third-party DRM has already become a major point of debate within the gaming community.

It appears that PC gamers aren't happy about the arrival of Denuvo DRM due to PC performance concerns.

PC Players Raise Performance Concerns

The change was first spotted after a Reddit user noticed the updated Steam page, which now lists Denuvo under its third-party DRM section. The inclusion has reignited long-standing criticism of the technology, which some players believe can negatively impact PC performance.

Denuvo is commonly used by publishers to prevent piracy during a game's early launch period. However, it has also been associated by some users with longer loading times, stuttering, and reduced frame rates, particularly on mid-range systems.

Community Reaction Turns Negative

Fan reaction has been swift, with many expressing frustration over the late-stage implementation. Some PC players have already stated they may avoid purchasing the game unless the DRM is removed or performance is proven stable after release.

The concerns are further amplified by the game's demanding technical requirements. Built using Unreal Engine 5, the title requires at least 16GB of RAM and relies on frame generation technology to maintain 30 frames per second even on recommended settings.

"Oh well if they ever fix performance and remove denuvo, I'll buy it on a steep sale."

"UE5 + Denuvo, name a more iconic duo."

With Denuvo now added to the equation, many gamers fear that real-world performance may fall short of advertised expectations, particularly on mid-tier hardware.

Past Batman PC Launch Adds to Worries

Longtime fans have also drawn comparisons to the troubled PC launch of "Batman: Arkham Knight" in 2015, which suffered from severe optimization issues at release.

That history has intensified concerns that "Legacy of the Dark Knight" could face similar technical problems, according to IGN.

Developers Continue Promotion Despite Backlash

Despite the criticism, TT Games continues to promote the upcoming title, including a recently released trailer that highlights the game's humor and classic musical tone.

To this day, fans do not know if TT Games will finally listen to their sentiments.
