"Kingdom Hearts IV" was officially confirmed for Nintendo Switch 2 during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, where Square Enix surprised viewers with an extended new trailer for the next mainline entry in the long-running action RPG franchise.
The new footage appeared near the end of Nintendo's latest showcase and delivered the most substantial public look at "Kingdom Hearts IV" since its initial reveal four years ago, highlighting real-time combat, traversal, and cinematic sequences running on Nintendo's upcoming hardware.
The trailer showed protagonist Sora fighting in a more realistic, densely detailed city environment identified as Quadratum, with large-scale battles unfolding across rain-soaked streets and high-rise rooftops.
Nintendo described the presentation as one of the key segments of the Direct, positioning the title alongside other major announcements for Nintendo Switch 2, according to Business Wire.
'Kingdom Hearts IV' for the Nintendo Switch 2
Square Enix confirmed that "Kingdom Hearts IV" will be available at launch on Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first time a numbered mainline entry in the series will debut on a Nintendo home console.
A press release issued after the Direct also noted that the game is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Sen 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, expanding its reach across current-generation platforms.
No release date or release window was provided, and neither Nintendo nor Square Enix offered details on pricing or special editions.

In an official description, Square Enix stated that "Kingdom Hearts IV" will follow Sora as he navigates the mysterious city of Quadratum, meeting new characters while unlocking new abilities that drive the next chapter of the series' story.
The company indicated that players will once again travel across multiple realms, though specific Disney or original worlds featured in the new installment were not named in the Direct or accompanying materials, Square Enix reported.
Donald and Goofy were briefly shown in the new trailer, confirming the return of the long-time party members alongside Sora.
A New Entry in the Beloved Franchise
Alongside the mainline sequel, Square Enix announced native Nintendo Switch 2 collections of previous "Kingdom Hearts" titles, replacing the cloud-based versions released for the original Nintendo Switch in 2022.
These collections will bundle earlier entries, with save data transfers offered to existing Switch owners, aimed at giving new players a way to catch up on the series before "Kingdom Hearts IV" launches.
Nintendo also confirmed that a free "Kingdom Hearts III" demo focused on the "Toy Story" world is available on the Nintendo eShop, providing an additional entry point for newcomers.
Industry overviews of the Direct noted that "Kingdom Hearts IV" was one of the headline announcements, listed alongside projects such as a remake of "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" and new entries in other major Nintendo franchises.
The new footage and platform confirmations follow a long period with limited updates on the sequel, after director Tetsuya Nomura previously described "Kingdom Hearts IV" as the beginning of a new phase that sets up the broader conclusion of the current saga, as per Games Radar.
