‘Doom’ Release Date, News & Update: New Trailer Reveals What to Expect from Bethesda's Upcoming Game

Bethesda Softworks has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming game, "Doom."

The video featured the first-person shooter game's demons, power-ups, power weapons, and environments, among others, GameSpot listed. Watch the trailer here.

The demons showcased in the clip include powerful characters named Baron of Hell and Prowler, the news outlet added. The game's power-ups highlighted invisibility and quad damage, while the power weapons include the chainsaw, gauss canon, and the BFG.

Unique Maps & Multiplayer Modes

"Doom," which hails from id Software, will have nine multiplayer maps when it launches. Each map will come with its own unique quality, and will take players to places such as the pits of Hell, an ancient arena with suffering souls in it, and beneath the polar ice caps of Mars. Read descriptions for each map on Bethesda's blog post.

"Every map is constructed to keep the action brutally fast-paced," Bethesda said on its blog post. "These multi-tiered combat arenas are littered with hazards, and packed with items that can turn the tide of combat at a moment's notice. And while they all have secrets for you to uncover, none of them are built to allow for easy sniping or hiding points."

Some of the maps showcase one- or two-way teleporters that can be used by both humans and demons, although weapon fire can't travel through it, a separate report from GameSpot noted. Other features are bounce pads, explosive barrels, radioactive slime, lava pits, and fire elements capable of hurting characters if touched.

"Doom" will also be equipped with six multiplayer modes, IGN wrote. These modes are Soul Harvest, Freeze Tag, Warpath, Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Clan Arena.

Soul Harvest is a kill-and-collect game mode where players have to collect the souls of killed enemies to score points, while teammates will collect allies' souls to prevent enemies from acquiring points.

The Freeze Tag game mode will put players frozen in place instead of dying, IGN added. They can only be thawed by nearby allies. This game mode aims to completely freeze the opposing team. Warpath, meanwhile, features a single capture point moving around the map.

"Doom" will be released on May 13 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, GameSpot reported. New footage from the game will be unveiled this week as part of a special livestream broadcast.

A closed multiplayer beta for the game will be available from March 31 to April 3, the news outlet added. Those who pre-ordered a copy of "Wolfenstein: The New Order" and redeemed their beta code will be allowed to access the closed beta period.
