'Overwatch' To Increase Its Hero Count, What We Know So Far About New Character 'Sombra'

“Overwatch” currently has 21 heroes, but Jeff Kaplan said that they will be adding more. The game director revealed that there will be a new hero named Sombra.

It has only been a few weeks since “Overwatch” launched but players are already expecting a new hero to release. The rumors started after Blizzard’s last animated short.

According to Kaplan, it was not strange that people were immediately speculating about Sombra, since they have been giving several clues in and out of the game. He hopes that players will keep researching and looking for more hints about the character. However, he is certain that not everything about the character has been revealed yet.

In an interview with Eurogamer, Kaplan did not provide details about Sombra in “Overwatch,” but only suggested that gamers stay on the lookout for clue. Previously, the game director also stated that there will be free maps and new characters that will arrive after the official launch of the game. Blizzard is also expected to provide some adjustments and balancing tweaks. Although Sombra’s hero type has not been revealed, many expect that the character will improve the overall gameplay and dynamics.

GameRant revealed that, aside from a new character, Kaplan also said that “Overwatch” will have a competitive mode that will come soon. The mode will expectedly be different from the beta version in various aspects, while seasons will last about two and a half months. Cross-platform play may also become available in the near future, allowing PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players to battle at the same time.

“Overwatch” was a huge hit since it launched earlier in May 2016, garnering over 7 million players within the first week. The player count continues to grow, while others are steadily getting better at certain heroes. Sombra will most likely provide some impact to the existing roster and make battles more interesting.

In the meantime, the “Overwatch” development team is also planning to introduce balance changes for heroes McCree and D. Va. The two characters have reportedly been overpowering during games, so they will reduce the hammer damage of McCree, without taking out the flashbang/hammer combo. They wanted to nerf McCree since he tends to take down tanks rather easily. The balance change for McCree will come sooner than D. Va.

“Overwatch” is currently playable on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. More updates and details are expected soon.
