According to Entertainment Weekly, "Supernatural" season 12 will go back to its roots, raising speculations that fans may get to see the return of Monster of the Week. Notably, the previous seasons only featured one or two major villains.

Misha Collins portraying the fan-favorite angel Castiel was quoted telling Nerdist that "Supernatural" season 12 will get back to its roots. With this statement, fans are expecting to see more of the stand-alone episodes, which were featured in the early seasons of the series.

"It's going to feel a lot like earlier seasons of the show, which I'm excited about, Collins described "Supernatural" season 12. "And the same really goes for my character in particular."

Cartermatt noted that "Supernatural" season 12 will give fans a chance to watch any episode regardless of what season they're currently in. The Monster of the Week plots have been essential to the success of the CW drama series.

While there are many fans asking for the return of Monster of the Week, there are also some who wish to see "Supernatural" season 12 to revolve around Men of Letters.

Mary Winchester Returns

Additionally, spoilers reveal that Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Mary Winchester (Samantha Smith) will definitely come back. However, Jeremy Carver will not be returning, passing the show running duties to executive producers Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb.

There were no further details revealed about "Supernatural" season 12. It remains a mystery if Lucifer (Mark Pelligrino), God (Chuck) and The Darkness (Amara) will return next season.

Fans, however, are expecting some details to be revealed during CW panel discussion at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.
