'Star Trek: Discover' Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Show To Depict 'Expression Of Diversity'; Set To Have A Gay Character?

The screenwriter Bryan Fuller discussed the coming of "Star Trek: Discover" on the small screen at the Television Critics Association's press tour in Beverly Hills on Wednesday. The 47-year-old producer hinted a lot of revelations, from its going-to-be controversial stars and different kind of storyline.

'Star Trek: Discover' Plot & Stars

Bryan Fuller matched up "Star Trek: Discover" to a story with more than 13 episodes. This only implies that the TV series carries a sequential plot rather than an uninterrupted one, as per Entertainment Weekly. He also explained that there is still an unexplored part in "Star Trek" origin that they will try to tell.

"To do this series, we're telling a much more serialized story, to dig deep into a very tantalizing storyline. And we have a character who's on a journey, and in order to understand something that is alien, she first has to understand herself," Bryan Fuller said. "Star Trek: Discover," too, will be starred by various casts as they set it to depict an "expression of diversity." "Our lead of the show is going to be subject of that same level of who's the best actor and also what can we say about diversity on the show," he also added.

'Star Trek' Discover' Will Have A Gay Character?

Meanwhile, "Star Trek: Discover" is also set to have a female lead character, which will be played by an actor as part of its "diversity." Bryan Fuller was asked if they were going to allow a gay and he responded enthusiastically with an "absolutely" yes.

CBS is now being condemned for six its new shows that only have white male actors, but the "expression of diversity" "Star Trek: Discover" wants to portray has nothing to do with the censure. To recall, Bryan Fuller once said that he wants Angela Bassett to be the captain of an imaginary "Star Trek" series back in 2013, Vulture reported. "Star Trek: Discovery" is set to premiere on CBS and will eventually be switched to CBS All Access.
