The PlayStation Network will be offline on Dec. 3 for routine maintenance that will take place from 11am to 7pm Eastern Time.
As with previous maintenance periods, gamer will not be able to access the PlayStation Store, Store, account management and user registration. But gamers will be able to play games online and continue to collect PlayStation Trophies. The trophies will likely be updated on the player's profiles after the update.
The best news about this update is that it will be done before the last Triple-A video game title of 2012 releases. Far Cry 3 will be out tomorrow in retail stores and as a digital download on the PlayStation Network.
Another big release on the PlayStation Network is the release of the original Mass Effect. The game that started one of the best trilogies on the current generation of video game consoles will be available for the first time on PlayStation 3 tomorrow.
Gamers will be able to pick up Mass Effect as a digital download from the PlayStation store or at retail stores as part of the Mass Effect Trilogy pack tomorrow Dec. 4.
Here is Sony's statement regarding the outage and planned maintenance to the PlayStation Network:
"We wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that there is a planned maintenance for PlayStation Network scheduled for Monday, December 3rd from 8AM to 4PM Pacific Time (11AM to 7PM Eastern). To clarify, this is an eight hour maintenance.
If you've signed onto PSN over the past few days, you'll still be able to play online and access apps during this period, but you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, and Account Management as these services will be unavailable. Be sure to sign in now if you wish to access the Network during this maintenance window.
Thanks for your patience during this maintenance timeframe, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
