The Walking Dead: The Game by Telltale is episodic point-and-click adventure role-playing video game that was release in five parts for iOS, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game was recently collected for a retail release. Season one includes: Episode 1: A New Day, Episode 2: Starved for Help, Episode 3: Long Road Ahead, Episode 4:Around Every Corner, and Episode 5: No Time Left.
The retail box version of the game is only available at GameStop stores and cost $29.99 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game was recently won the Spike TV VGA game of the year award. So is it worth picking the entire first season? Here is our review round up for the season one of the game:
IGN says, "Don't mince words: The Walking Dead: The Game is something special. By giving players the option to craft relationships and make choices that fill out the story, The Walking Dead wraps you up in its events and makes you care in a way few video games can. Yes, there are moments where Lee's animations look jerky and technical issues remind you this is just a game, but the story is what's driving the action here, and it's a tale no one should miss." The reviewer gives season one a 9.3-out-of-10.
Video game site 1Up grades season one an A and says, "The Walking Dead genuinely restored my faith in Telltale, and brought me the best characters and narrative our medium has seen in years. That may sound hyperbolic, but The Walking Dead took risks so few games would ever take, and for that reason it stands as one of the finest adventure games I've ever played."
Digital Trends says, "The Walking Dead certainly isn't a "fun" game. You won't walk away laughing. It is dark and often disturbing, and beautiful and heartbreaking. It is an important game, and will be remembered for what it is: a masterpiece. The reviewer gives the game a 10-out-of-10 for a perfect score.
Games Radar gives season one 5-out-of-5 stars. The reviewer says, "Despite not always being in control, The Walking Dead makes you feel as though you are. Even though you can't always save someone from death, you can give it your best try, shaping the person you are. And it's up to you to decide if it's worth the effort to change what, in all likelihood, cannot be changed."
Microsoft will have Telltale Games' The Walking Dead series on sale later this month as part of its year-end sale. The first episode is rumored to be free for a week starting on Christmas Day.
