Walking Dead: The Game Xbox Live Codes Being Issued To Gamers With Defective Retail Version

Xbox 360 video gamers who purchased the retail version of The Walking Dead: The Game and experienced "severe hitching" will be receiving Xbox Live codes for the digital version of game.

According to an article on Joystiq, Telltale discovered that the issues of "unacceptable freezing or stuttering" occurred to those gamers who were playing the disc version on a 4GB Xbox 360 with no internal hard drive.

Matt P of Telltale Team released the following statement on Telltale's forums:

"After investigating reports of severe 'hitching' (gameplay interrupted by unacceptable freezing or stuttering) when playing The Walking Dead on Xbox 360, we have determined that this issue affects the following only:

Xbox 360 4GB models not fitted with an internal hard disk drive, playing the disc-based (retail) version of the game

This issue does NOT affect Xbox 360s fitted with an internal hard disk drive or Xbox 360 4GB (no internal hard disk drive) users playing the digital version of the game downloaded from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

Remedy

Acquiring and installing an internal hard disk drive compatible with your Xbox360 4GB console will resolve this issue (a hard disk drive connected via your Xbox 360's USB port will NOT provide a remedy).

If you are unable to acquire and install an internal hard disk drive for your Xbox 360 4GB, we will supply you with codes to download season one (5 episodes) of The Walking Dead from the Xbox LIVE Marketplace at no charge as outlined in the associated Claim Redemption Form [Click here to download].

Upon confirmation of proof of purchase, Xbox LIVE Marketplace codes and instructions for their use will be sent to you at no charge.

We value our customers and sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused."

There were several issues with the retail version on the 4GB Xbox 360 console including gamers being unable to continue the game after playing the first episode. Other gamers could not get past the game's second encounter with one of the Walkers in Clementine's childhood home.

According to Joystiq, in another forum post Telltale said that it has submitted a patch that will fix the issue to Microsoft. Once the new patch is approved the company will make it available as a title update.

Here is what Telltale posted on the forum:

"Please note that we have been investigating these issues, and believe we have determined a solution for both. We have recently submitted a potential fix to Microsoft, and are awaiting their response. Once approved, this update will be released through a Title Update on Xbox Live. I will update this post with more information as it becomes available."

The Walking Dead: The Game is available for Xbox 360 via Xbox Live, PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network and for iOS devices via the iTunes store. The game is also available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in a retail edition that collects all five episodes. Gamers with the 4GB Xbox 360 with no internal hard drive be wary.
