Fans of Cassandra Clare's popular "Mortal Instruments" book series will be delighted that they will be able to watch "Shadowhunters" season 2 soon. The paranormal fantasy show, which stars Dominic Sherwood and Katherine McNamara as Jace Wayland and Clary Fray, is determined to build upon the legions of fans it gained in its first season. In its quest to have higher ratings for "Shadowhunters" season 2, it looks like it will have a possible crossover with "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
Rumors started about the "Shadowhunters" season 2 and "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 when, according to TV Line, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 star Paul Wesley was confirmed to be directing an episode. This is, especially, surprising as Wesley is still not really known for his directing skills. But it is said that Wesley helming and episode of "Shadowhunters" season 2 is done because of a deal between "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 showrunner Julie Plec and Freeform.
When Hollywood Reporter broke the news that there will be a "Shadowhunters" season 2, it is said that Freeform was trying to find alternative ways to increase awareness for the show. Thankfully, "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 showrunner Julie Plec was in town to pitch a new show for the network. She is reported to have offered that the two shows have a crossover episode to help different fanbases be aware of each other.
"Shadowhunters" season 2 will make its premiere on Monday, January 2, at 9 pm ET on Freeform while "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will start its run on Friday, October 21, at 8 pm ET on the CW.
