After Johnny Depp has been confirmed in joining the cast of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", which was still a mystery during that time. It has been confirmed that the "Pirates of The Caribbean" star will play Gellert Grindelwald the infamous dark wizard and the archnemesis of Dumbledore in the Harry Potter Universe.

David Yates, the director of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", revealed Johnny Depp's character during an interview via The Leaky Cauldron. Johnny Depp will portray Gellert Grindelwald and will have a cameo in the first film and will be a major character in the sequel.

"Grindelwald is an iconic character, so it was important to have someone who had that weight," David Heyman said to audience when asked about the character in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". "There's a reason why he has that weight. It's because, you know, he's a fine actor who makes unexpected choices."

In the previous "Harry Potter" franchise, Gellert Grindelwald was played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Michael Byrne. The "Harry Potter" author and David Yates has also confirmed the Hogwarts headmaster, Albus Dumbledore to appear in the sequel of "Fantstic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

J.K. Rowling previously revealed Albus Dumbledore's sexual preference in "Fantasic Beasts and Where to Find Them". She claimed that the headmaster was in love with the dark wizard, Gellert Grindelwald, according to Independent UK.

Apparently, during the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" era, Dumbledore and Grindelwald were close friends and were fascinated by the Deathly Hallows. Their friendship went sour after Aberforth, Dumbledore's brother and Grindelwald were batteling against each other that caused the death of their sister.

As of now, no actor has been confirmed to play Johnny Depp's foe and possible love interest in the franchise. It is still very unclear whether we will see some romantic scenes of Grindelwald and Dumbledore in the sequel of "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

"Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" will be released on November 17, 2016 in cinemas. Stay tuned for more updates on the "Harry Potter" spinoff.
