'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them' Release Date, News & Update: Johnny Depp Enters 'Harry Potter' Universe; Cameo In First Film?

Johnny Depp will enter the Harry Potter universe as one of the cast for the sequel of "Fantastic Beast and Where to find Them". However, there are still no details of Johnny Depp's character in the Warner Bros. film.

The 53-year old actor is known for his acting chops as "Edward Scissorhands" and Captain Jack Sparrow in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" which is now on its fifth installment. "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" fans will have to wait a little longer to know what character Johnny Depp will be playing in the Harry Potter universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp will also be making a cameo in the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" first installment that will be out this November 18. The fantasy film is starred by Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, a magizoologist in the 1920's who is making his way to the Magical Congress of the United States of America.

In "Fantastic Beast And Where to Find Them", Newt Scamender arrives in New York for a brief stopover where No-Maj or a Muggle named Jacob, who misplaced his magical case releasing Newt's fantastic beasts. Harry Potter writer, J.K. Rowling, announced earlier last month that she has finished plotting the story line for five more films for the "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them".

Johnny Depp will join David Yates who will direct the second installment of the Fantastic Beast franchise which is reported to come out November 16, 2018.  Mashable reports that it is still unclear whether J.K. Rowling will be continuing to write for the other the sequels or will she let producer Steve Kloves be the screenwriter for the sequels just like several of the Harry Potter films.
