Evidently, this story from "Attack on Titan" Anthology carries a deeper sad meaning that can be seen in every page turn and it's getting worse as "Memory Maze" story goes on. Later, it was revealed that this couple lost their only son when the Titans destroyed the walls that defended the humankind for more than 20 years ago.
Unfortunately, the young boy from "Attack on Titan" Anthology didn't make it against the behemoths when he was dragged to the crack when the red smoke emerged. His parents had a hard time to accept the truth, thus still waiting for his return.
