‘Sons of Anarchy’ Spinoff Release Date, News & Update: Spinoff Greenlit By FX; Is Charlie Hunnam Coming Back?

"Sons of Anarchy" was one of the most popular shows in FX during its seven-year run. The series is about a tightly knit group of Californian motorcyclists with Charlie Hunnam as Jax, Katey Sagal as Gemma, Ron Perlman as Clay, and Mark Boone Junior as Bobby.

After its final episode in 2014, creator Kurt Sutter was very vocal about making a spinoff of that series. Fans of "Sons of Anarchy" will not have to wait that long because FX has confirmed the pilot for the spinoff with the title "Mayans MC."

According to the comic book, the spinoff "Mayans MC" are events that will take place after "Sons of Anarchy. Sadly, this means that Charlie Hunnam will not be reprising his role as Jax Teller. It was shown that Jax Teller died in the last episode of season 7.

Plot synopsis has also been revealed. "Mayans MC is set in a post-Jax Teller world, where EZ Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the Cali/Mexi border, struggles with his desire for vengeance against the cartel, and his need for respect from the women he loves." Many fans are disappointed that they would not get to see the original cast of "Sons of Anarchy" but it is also interesting to see what will happen to the biker world of EZ Reyes.

However, many speculate that most of the original characters from "Sons of Anarchy" will have some special participation in "Mayans MC" because most of them were able to live beyond the season finale, and in theory, are still alive. However, Sutter already revealed last year that "although the Mayan Project may intersect with SOA charters, it will be a very different show." Fans should be too disappointed as the show will display some unique storytelling and plot.

"Mayans MC" still has not been officially ordered to be a series but there are rumors that it will end up as one. Furthermore, it is officially in script development and will shoot in March. Let's hope that it will be as good, if not better, as its predecessor, "Sons of Anarchy."
