“Wayward Pines” Season 3 Air Date, Spoilers, News and Update: Third Run Premieres in 2017; Series to Crossover with “Stranger Things?" Details Revealed

Reports on a "Wayward Pines" season 3 just won't die. Although a confirmation of a new series has not been officially announced by FOX, which aired the first two seasons, nor by the show's creators, the interest in finding out just what happened after the Wayward Pines residents were placed back in cryogenic suspension is still there.

Recently, an unconfirmed 2017 release date for the much talked about of "Wayward Pines" season 3 has been reported for the series. It was revealed that M. Night Shyamalan, the director as well as producer of the first two installments of the show, and Chad Hodge, the show's creator, are confident that a "Wayward Pines" season 3 can rack up the viewership numbers up to 3.5 million by factoring in the DVR figures.

This issue was said to have been the reason for concern after the second installment of the series came out with just 2.4 million viewership ratings when the first season had stood at 3.8 million. It was noted though that, despite the decrease in the "Wayward Pines" season 2 ratings, such viewership ratings for the sophomore season are still high enough to merit another season.

It was also pointed out that the television series is based on a book and the story could still go on for another season before its cancellation. Despite this view, the situation regarding the "Wayward Pines" season 3 renewal remains at a stalemate. But without confirmation from the show's network that it is shutting down the series, it may still be safely said, there may be hope.

It may be this ray of hope that has brought rumors of a "Wayward Pines" season 3 crossover with another series, "Stranger Things." Predictably, fans are overjoyed at the thought, although others are speculating on how this could be possible with the two shows airing on different networks ('Stranger Things" is a Netflix series). However, like anything related to a "Wayward Pines" season 3 outing, this bit of speculation remains only that without an official announcement.
