'Uncharted' Movie Release Date, News & Updates: Mark Wahlberg Used to be a Candidate to Plat the Iconic Treasure Hunter

The movie adaptation of "Uncharted" is already undergoing the pre-production phase, but the actor who will be playing the iconic Nathan Drake is still unknown. However, there is one actor that was being considered five years ago to play the video game character.

Based on reports, Mark Wahlberg was one of the candidates that were being considered before to play the role of Nathan Drake in the "Uncharted" film. We Got This Covered was able to speak to the actor while promoting his upcoming film, "Patriot's Day." Wahlberg has confessed that he is no longer attached to the treasure hunter, Nathan Drake.

The "Uncharted" movie has already gone through a lot of processes before it was given the green light and the directors that were considered before were Neil Burger and Seth Gordon. David Russel was supposed to direct the adaptation of the video game and if it was pushed through, Mark Wahlberg may have been part of the project. As of now, Mark Wahlberg has a lot on his plate even though the character may suit him and he has a blockbuster movie that is set to be released next year, "Transformers: The Last Knight."

It was also stated in reports that Shawn Levy is the new director of the "Uncharted" film. The director has been known for his work in "Stranger Things" and one of the installments of "Night at the Museum." Levy has already been eyeing a lot of actors that would fit the role of Nathan Drake, and he is also working closely with his writer, Joe Carnahan, known for "The Grey."

There is no exact release date yet for the movie version of "Uncharted," but the director of the film is hoping that they will be done with the principal photography in 2017. This indicates that there is a chance that it will hit theaters in 2018.
