Steam's Best Selling Game in 2016 Is 'No Man's Sky'

Steam has released a sale of its best-selling titles over the past year. The results may surprise some of the retailer’s users.

Steam has launched a sale of its best-selling titles, which have achieved highest gross revenue over the past year. PC Games Network shares that the sale is divided in four tiers, depending on the success they have reached over the past year. Tiers are as follows : Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

Among the Platinum games, gamers can see expected titles such as “CS: Global Offensive”, “The Witcher 3”, “GTA V”, “Dark Souls 3” and one which was completely unexpected, that is “No Man’s Sky”. The creation of Hello Games has managed to reach one of the honorable positions on the current Steam sale.

According to Game Rant, this comes as no surprise. After release, the game got a “overwhelmingly negative” review score on Steam, which completely ruined its reputation and made sells fall far beneath the expectations, but it was the time before the game’s launch that shot it straight into Steam stardom. The large amount of hype surrounding the game managed to push record amounts of pre-orders and day one sells, which was the pivoting point of the title. Even though afterwards sells plummeted and the reputation of the game was completely ruined, it still managed to become of the highest grossing sellers over the year.

For those of you who have been out of the loop on “No Man’s Sky”, here is a Reddit post, which perfectly sums up the reasons behind the largely negative reviews which the game received after release. Among them are missing features, bad optimization on the PC, complex crafting system and much, much more. No matter the backlash, “No Man’s Sky” is one of the highest grossing sellers on Steam and that is a fact which cannot be denied. “No Man’s Sky” is available on PC and Sony PlayStation 4.
