'Overwatch' Release Date, News & Update: Blizzard Gifts Gamers with Loot Boxes this Christmas; Game Tops Best-Selling List for PC

Blizzard is having one happy Christmas. In fact, there's a lot to celebrate, as the studio's "Overwatch," which was released back in May, has topped the best-selling list for PC games. It leads with $585.6 million in revenue, and that's for PC alone.

The news comes via VG24/7, which reports that "Overwatch" earned almost twice as "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive," which earned $257.2 million. "Guild Wars 2" comes in third with $91 million, with "Minecraft" earning $88.7 million and "Fallout 4" earning $74.9.

Note that "Overwatch" was the latest to be released, which makes its numbers even more exciting for Blizzard. The game seems to be well-received on PC, but not on consoles, as it did not break into the top 5 list for PlayStation and Xbox.

In celebration of their massive success, Blizzard gifts gamers with loot boxes this Christmas. According to PlayStation Lifestyle, Blizzard is thanking fans with give free loot boxes for those who logged in on Christmas Day. A note was displayed upon logging in, saying that the studio "wanted to take a moment to thank you" for being part of what they called an "eventful and amazin" year.

According to WWG, the "Overwatch" loot boxes will be available until January 2, so make sure to login before then to open up the five free loot boxes from Blizzard. In the meantime, "Overwatch" gamers should enjoy the "Winter Wonderland" update that will be available until January 2 as well.

According to IGN, the "Winter Wonderland" update for "Overwatch" features a new mode called Arcade," which is a 6v6 mode where gamers have only one chance at a battle and will have to play as Mei. There's also 12 skins, namely Andes, Frostbite, Frosted, Jingle, Peppermint, Mei-rry, Shiver, Yeti, Scrooge, Santaclad, Rudolph, and Nutcracker.
