‘Ghostbusters 2’ Release Date, News & Update: Director Wants To Bust More Ghosts With All-Male Lead Cast?

"Ghostbusters 2" might be in the works less than a year after the "Ghostbuster: Answer The Call" was released last year. The question is if the sequel will be an all-male cast.

"Ghostbuster: Answer The Call" has an all-female lead cast including Chris Hemsworth, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Kristen Wig. Some reports said that this casting has led to very small gross sales of only $229 million across the globe. Will "Ghostbuster 2" have the same fate if it will be an all-male cast?

Director Paul Feig was reported to be up to make "Ghostbusters 2" but said that Sony has not yet called him yet. He would love to see the characters bust more ghosts and have the chance to be awesome again. What he did not clarify is if the cast will reprise their role again.

The "Ghostbuster" brand is a very popular franchise. It is overwhelming to note that it was not a blockbuster. According to reports, the movie needs to gross at least $300 million to have a break even considering its budget was $144 million. Hopefully, "Ghostbuster 2" can pull up the revenues should the movie be pushed through.

There have been reports that the core cast is under contract for two more sequels. If the reports are true, then fans can expect "Ghostbuster 2" to be still an all-female cast. As the movie director is also up for another run, it is then in Sony's hands to decide whether to give the popular franchise a green light.

Fans who enjoyed the "Ghostbuster: Answer The Call" hopes that the rumors of Sony getting another movie director for "Ghostbuster 2" is far from the truth. Even when the sales were a disappointment, they believe that the ideas were original and the cast was awesome.
