Nintendo’s Super Mario Run Earnings: Will It Beat ‘Pokemon Go’s Revenue Record?

Nintendo’s Super Mario Run Earnings: Will It Beat ‘Pokemon Go’s Revenue Record?

Nintendo has been part of the lives of many being the biggest gaming company in the world. During the '80s, it introduced the iconic characters of Mario and Luigi and captured the interests of the young generations and even the young-at-heart. Finally, it came back this year with the release of Nintendo Entertainment System catering the timeless games loved by many. And now, Nintendo has released the mobile version of the classic Super Mario game and called it Super Mario Run.

Gamespot reported that revenue projections for the latest Super Mario Run game are expected to hit the $12 million to $15 million sales range within its first month. Though SuperData initially projected it at $60 million. Meanwhile, though there was a change in sales projection, the 30 million downloads in a month still remain. According to a report, the game was downloaded by almost 3 million times on its first day of release in the market.

The Super Mario Run app requires an internet connection for it to be played and it's still a bit too heavy-handed for a quick play. Hence, SuperData expects Nintendo to drop its price for the one-time payment charge after the holiday season, thus, the decrease in sales projection. The game is free for download but you have to pay $10 to unlock the remaining 21 levels.

Bloomberg also cited that the Super Mario Run ranked as the top downloaded game in 68 countries but was highest grossing in 14 countries only. Within the twelve hours after its release, the game app reached the top of revenue rankings and 27th in Japan. The two countries (US and Japan) are the second and third biggest app in the world.

Given the predictions of 30 million downloads and $15 million sales, Super Mario Run will still not beat the record set by "Pokemon Go".
