Square Enix Reportedly Puts 'Deus Ex' Series On Indefinite Hold

Reports claim that gamers consider the "Deus Ex" series as one of the best sci-fi RPGs currently available. Unfortunately, its publishers Square Enix and Eidos Montreal understand that the game is only popular with a certain group of audience. Their latest entry "Deus EX: Mankind Divided" apparently did not perform as well as the company expected, which might be the reason for speculations about its indefinite hiatus.

Although, some gamers praised the game for its improvement over "Deus Ex: Human Revolution." Its lack of retail movement probably influenced the company's decision to put future projects involving the franchise on hold for now. In an article from Eurogamer, the Candadian publisher's boss David Anfossi previously commited to "deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected "Deus Ex" games." However, due to the recent turn of events, it looks like the commitment might never come into fruition in the near future.

Square Enix has reportedly confirmed that it has refocused the efforts of Eidos Montreal towards another project. The new venture is labeled as "The Avenger Project" and is expected to develop numerous new "Avengers" games in the next couple of years. The new title will reportedly require most of the members of the publisher on board. Therefore, it obviously mean that any future "Deus Ex" will lack the significant manpower required to be completed.

Other rumors have also indicated that the Montreal-based developer has already begun working on a "Guardians of the Galaxy" game. They are also apparently involved with another "Tomb Raider" title and further support the lack of staff members for more "Deus Ex" content, says Game Rant.

The recent announced from Square Enix and Eidos Montreal might appear final, but it could also possibly justify their current priorities. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is still expecting some DLC content in the near future, but new games from the "Deus Ex" series could face a long drought until further notice.
