Microsoft Confirms 'Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War' Xbox Play Anywhere

Hot in the heels of its accidental leak, Monolith Productions has confirmed that "Middle-Earth: Shadow of War" is being developed for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Meanwhile, Microsoft's Phil Spencer has reportedly confirmed that the Open-world action RPG is an Xbox Play Anywhere game for the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. The designation means that players just need to purchase the game for a particular supported platform and they can get the game for free on the other one.

For now, the only other games that feature Play Anywhere are "Forza Horizon 3" and "Gears of War 4". Sources have also confirmed that these two titles feature cross-platform play. Meanwhile, Monolith has not officially announced if "Shadow of War" will have a multiplayer mode at all. Game Rant also points out that Microsoft did not confirm if the action RPG will have certain tweaks on their upcoming Project Scorpio console, despite Spencer's tweet, which mentions the new flagship console.

Reports pointed out that even though "Middle-Earth: Shadow of War" won't have any notable enhancements on the new Microsoft console, its Xbox Play Anywhere feature means players can transfer their progress onto the new system. The game appears to promise an improved Nemesis system, which was considered the best feature in Monolith Productions' 2014 fantasy action RPG.

The official game trailer also reveals the returning characters Talion and Celebrimbo. The duo seems to be on a mission to create another ring and build an army to fight against Sauron. Gamespot has reported that a $300 Mithril Edition will be exclusively available from Gamestop. The special package cost's $200 more than the Gold edition. The Mithril package includes extras like a magnetic Ring of Power replica, a 12-inch statue and more.

Besides Phil Spencer's announcement of Xbox Play Anywhere support, Monolith Productions and Warner Bros. Interactive plan to reveal the official gameplay footage of "Middle-Earth: Shadow of War" next week. It seems like the unintended leak has prompted the publisher to make their announcement earlier than planned.
