In “NieR: Automata”, the only way for PC and PlayStation 4 players to fully upgrade their weapons is to find the hidden blacksmith. Regardless if the player has already finished the game and completed different playthroughs, their weapons can only be upgraded to level 3 unless they find the blacksmith. This blacksmith is hidden in the forest and should be very easy to find as long as the player knows where to look.

Who is the Hidden Blacksmith in “NieR: Automata”

The blacksmith in the game is called Masamune and he is named after the greatest swordsmith in the history of Japan. He is a robot that can upgrade game weapons to its maximum level which is level 4 according to Gameranx. At the same time, he is also selling new and useful items so taking the time to find him is really worth it.

How to Upgrade Weapons to Level 4

The only way to unlock level 4 weapon upgrades in “NieR: Automata” is found Masamune in the forest according to Game Revolution. To do that, players must first have access to the Forest castle. And once in the area, go to the royal chambers to find a broken bridge outside. Use the hole to be dropped in the walkway below. Then players must move to the left and investigate the wall. This should allow the player to discover a hidden black that opens a new path leading to an unknown area. This is where Masamune is found and he will upgrade the player’s weapon for 10,000 game money.

Aside from upgrading weapons, Masamune also offers three new weapons which are the Machine Spear, Machine Sword, and the Machine Axe. These weapons are all created by machine lifeforms. When the player upgrades all the weapons in the game at its maximum level, this will also unlock the “Inorganic Blade” and “Tools of the Trade” trophy.
