CD Projekt Red (CDPR) is on fire now as the company has unveiled "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's" surprise expansion 12 years after the game first released called "Songs of the Past."
This new DLC follows the previous expansion from the Polish game studio, "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Blood and Wine," which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this week.
'The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past' Expansion Unveiled
CD Projekt Red unveiled the latest "The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past" expansion via its official Witcher X account, which has come as a surprise for many fans and players worldwide.
The studio is currently celebrating the 10th anniversary since the release of its previous DLC, "Blood and Wine," and CDPR had intended to reveal the upcoming expansion during a special celebratory livestream on May 28.
The studio shared a brief statement alongside the reveal: "Medallion's humming... that can only mean one thing! It's time to announce 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past.' This brand-new expansion for 'The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt' will take you to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more."

The story of "The Witcher 4" is set to follow Ciri as its protagonist, meaning that while the next mainline game is not a Geralt story, "Songs of the Past" gives players a chance to spend more time with the White Wolf before that chapter fully closes.
There are still many details missing from CD Projekt Red's announcement, with the studio yet to release a trailer to unveil what the expansion will deliver.
However, the teaser shows Geralt facing a massive tree monster, suggesting the expansion will carry the same tone and monster-hunting stakes that defined the original game.
CD Projekt Red's New Expansion Is Coming Soon
CDPR also confirmed that story content is being co-developed with fellow Polish developer Fool's Theory, the same studio currently working on a remake of the original "The Witcher."
"Songs of the Past" will arrive at some point in 2027 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, with the studio saying that more information about the new expansion will be released later in the summer.
The existence of the expansion also adds context to the current state of "The Witcher 4" as the game does not have a release date yet. Rumors have claimed that a 2027 window looks increasingly unlikely now that CDPR is clearly not finished with its predecessor, according to Engadget.
The last major look at "The Witcher 4" came from an Unreal Engine 5 tech demo shown last year, following its cinematic trailer debut at The Game Awards in 2024.
