Rockstar Games is facing a rather big problem as there are now "Grand Theft Auto VI" scams circulating online, with some eager fans now being robbed of a couple of bucks for a fake game.
It should be noted that, in recent months, Rockstar Games faced massive hacking incidents, and now, the company is seeing many bad actors pretending to deliver an early access beta of "Grand Theft Auto VI."
The fake early access betas to the game promise the experience to fans for a specific price, but these are not legitimate access to "GTA VI." This is because Rockstar Games has yet to officially open preorders for the next "Grand Theft Auto" game.
'GTA VI' Scams Bring Fake Early Access to Eager Fans
According to Digital Trends, a report from NordVPN's Threat Intelligence team found that cybercriminals are exploiting the massive interest around "Grand Theft Auto VI" with fake installers, bogus beta access, Android adware, and phishing pages.
The most common scam promises exclusive beta keys for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, then pushes users through the process with the use of forms, bot checks, paid subscriptions, or potentially unwanted apps.
Other Forms of 'GTA VI' Scams Now on the Web
There is also a fake Android app floating around under the name "GTA 6 Beta," which uses Rockstar-inspired branding and an intro video, but contains no actual game.
Once inside, users are bombarded with full-screen ads and redirected toward subscription traps or malware hidden behind fake verification steps.
Hundreds of phishing pages are likewise circulating, targeting Rockstar Social Club accounts via fake login forms hosted on legitimate platforms like GitHub and Vercel.
Scammers have also cloned well-known piracy sites like FitGirl, DODI, and ElAmigos, offering fake "GTA VI" files for Windows despite the game not launching on PC as of press time.
In addition to all these, Indian websites were also spotted to feature fake "GTA VI" preorders on e-commerce platforms based on a discovery posted on Reddit.
Rockstar Games Has Not Openened Pre-orders for 'GTA VI'
An internal Best Buy email referencing "GTA VI" preorders found its way online, sparking speculation that one of the most anticipated video games of all time would soon be available to purchase early.
A big marketing campaign for the title is set to kick off once summer starts, with preorders expected to go live around the same time. As of press time, any site claiming to offer early access, beta keys, or preorder bonuses outside of verified retailers should be treated with extreme caution.
Legitimate betas for major titles are announced through official channels only, and any site asking users to verify their identity or subscribe to a service to claim access is a scam, regardless of how convincing it looks.
"Grand Theft Auto VI" remains on track to launch on November 19.
