"Phantom Blade Zero" is shifting its release from early September to Oct. 29, 2026, a move that brings the action RPG within just weeks of "GTA 6" arriving on Nov. 19, 2026.
Developer S-Game originally targeted a Sept. 9, 2026, launch for "Phantom Blade Zero," revealed during The Game Awards 2025 alongside an extended gameplay trailer.
That date placed the kung-fu-inspired action RPG roughly two months ahead of Rockstar Games' "GTA 6." The newly announced delay pushes the title back by around 50 days, significantly tightening the gap between the two high-profile releases.
Following the change, "Phantom Blade Zero" is now scheduled for release on PC and PlayStation 5 on Oct. 29, 2026, positioning it roughly three weeks before "GTA 6" hits consoles on Nov. 19, 2026, according to Eurogamer.
'Phantom Blade Zero' Moves Release Window
This updated timing means S-Game's wuxia-themed action RPG will launch directly into the buildup for Rockstar's next open-world blockbuster rather than avoiding it. Industry commentators had widely expected publishers to steer clear of "GTA 6," but S-Game has instead accepted a narrower window.
In interviews about the revised schedule, S-Game developers indicated they are not concerned about releasing so close to "GTA 6," stating that their focus remains on their own game rather than the competition.
The studio characterized the delay as necessary to refine gameplay and polish content rather than as an attempt to escape a crowded September slate.
By moving to late October, "Phantom Blade Zero" leaves behind its earlier September 9 slot but trades it for a riskier position beside one of the industry's most anticipated titles, Gameliner reported.
"Phantom Blade Zero" is described as a dark, semi-open-world action RPG that blends fast-paced sword combat with stylized wuxia and "Kung-Fu Punk" elements.
What Players Can Expect
Players control Soul, an elite assassin for an organization known as The Order, who has 66 days to uncover the mastermind behind a conspiracy after being framed and left gravely wounded.
The game is powered by Unreal Engine 5 and is planned as a console exclusive for PlayStation 5 for at least 12 months, with a simultaneous launch on PC via Steam.
The delay was confirmed shortly after new gameplay footage and trailers were shown during Sony's State of Play and related presentations, which highlighted fluid, combo-heavy combat and multiple boss encounters.
Pre-orders for "Phantom Blade Zero" are set to open this summer, giving players several months to secure copies ahead of the Oct. 29 release date.
With the updated schedule, the title now serves as one of the last major action RPG launches before the arrival of "GTA 6" in November, as per Gosu Gamers.
