The "Over the Hill" demo is now live on Steam, giving players access to a stylized off-road simulation that showcases its first region, Emerald Lake, with technical trails and cooperative play options.
Developed by Funselektor and Strelka Games, "Over the Hill" is a cooperative off-road exploration game that emphasizes challenging terrain over racing.
The demo is being offered through Steam as part of an early public rollout, ahead of the full PC release planned for later in 2026, according to Traxion.
A console launch is also planned after the PC version, with the game expected to come to platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo's next-generation hardware.
'Over the Hill' Demo Out Now on Steam
The demo focuses on Emerald Lake, the first explorable area within the Valhallas region, inspired by the landscapes of British Columbia, Canada. Players can roam dense forests, lakesides, and steep mountain routes while dealing with rugged topography designed to stress-test off-road driving techniques.
According to the game's official description, the area combines quiet alpine ambience with multiple routes and specific off-road challenges embedded into the map.
In the current build, players can drive three classic off-road vehicles modeled on vintage 1960s–1980s 4x4s, each compatible with tools such as winches and camping equipment.
The tools are intended to support recovery and traversal, for example, by letting players tow vehicles across gaps or set up campsites between longer trail sections.
Early gameplay showcases also highlight vehicle customization options, including roof racks and auxiliary lighting, though the developers have not yet confirmed which upgrades will affect handling versus appearance.
The demo supports solo play or cooperative sessions with up to three additional players in the same instance, Inverse reported.
What Does Multiplayer Bring?
Multiplayer footage shows groups coordinating their routes, sharing navigation tips, and using winches to help one another through deep mud, steep climbs, and other difficult surfaces.
The game's systems require players to manage features such as high and low gearing and winch operation to clear the most technical obstacles.
Beyond free exploration, the demo includes designated Challenge Trails that are designed as optional, higher-difficulty routes. These segments use tighter paths, sharper gradients, and trickier surface conditions to test player skill and vehicle control.
The build also features wildlife to discover and photograph, reinforcing the exploration angle alongside the demanding off-road routes.
"Over the Hill" is available now as a free demo on Steam, with the full release targeting PC later this year and console versions to follow, as per Game Reactor.
