Nintendo Latest News & Update: Will Give Cash Rewards Up To $20,000 To Players Who Can Report Exploits Of 3DS

Nintendo is giving away $100 to $20,000 to anyone who can disclose hackers and modders that has been the biggest problem to the game developer for over four years now especially on their Nintendo 3DS consoles. Nintendo is partnering with Hacker One group which is a bug bounty platform and is composed of security leaders from Facebook, Google, and Microsoft

"Nintendo's goal is to provide a secure environment for our customers so that they can enjoy our games and services," said Nintendo in a statement in the Hacker One website. "Nintendo is only interested in vulnerability information regarding the Nintendo 3DS family of systems and is not seeking vulnerability information regarding other Nintendo platforms, network service, or server-related information," they continued.

Interested players who want to get the reward, here are example in which Nintendo is focuses on preventing against the hackers according to Kotaku. First is "Piracy" which includes, game application dumping, copied game application execution. Second is "Cheating" which includes, game application modification, save data modification and dissemination of inappropriate content to children.

Nintendo is interested in also receiving information about, System vulnerabilities regarding the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, Privilege escalation on ARM11 userland, ARM11 kernel takeover, ARM9 userland takeover and ARM9 kernel takeover

Vulnerabilities regarding Nintendo-published applications for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems includes ARM11 userland takeover. Hardware vulnerabilities regarding the Nintendo 3DS family of systems includes Low-cost cloning, security key detection via information leaks.

Nintendo will first determine whether the information given will be qualifies as a reward and there can only be one reward per qualifying information that will be given. The value of the reward will depend on how big and useful the information is, Nintendo will not disclose how the reward is calculated.
