Carmageddon: Reincarnation - Everything We Know So Far

Carmageddon: Reincarnation - A Guide to All That We Know

Carmageddon – Reincarnation is the newest and upcoming vehicular combat game currently being developed by Stainless Games and is only the fourth installment in the Carmageddon series.

Carmageddon – Reincarnation first came in the news officially after it was revealed back in September. At the time, Stainless Games announced that the new game would be release in the first quarter of 2014, and available as Early Access for PC via Steam.

"We are delighted to be making this announcement today. Anticipation for the arrival of this new chapter in the life of the Carmageddon Brand has been building since we regained the rights,” Jason Garber, Publishing Director at Stainless Games stated in the official press release.

“The existing Carmageddon community and a whole new generation of fans is out there waiting for this, and with Early Access on Steam they'll be able to play, engage with us and give feedback as we continue towards the full release."

Later, in May 2012, Stainless Games officially announced that the game was going to be funded through the crowd funding site Kickstarter, with an initial promise of a February 2013 launch via Steam. It was revealed then that the goal set was $400,000 through Kickstarter, and that anyone who would pledge around $1000 for the project, would also stand a chance to be featured in the game.

This was called the Fatal Immortality package that would include goodies as garnered from the official description below:

“FATAL IMMORTALITY: You can be a Pedestrian in the game! Or choose somebody you don't like (but we will need their permission, unfortunately - damn you Western legal system!) We’ll map your or their face onto one of our in-game victims (you'll get a choice of what style of ped you'd like to be - or you want your mother-in-law to be), so you can chase yourself and other Kickstarter backers and their nemesiseseseseses down in the game.”

“We'll even throw in an exclusive Carmageddon First Aid kit. You'll need it! Yes, a physical THING to go with the abstract reward of digital immortality (or more accurately, repeated DEATH). (+Previous Rewards below $750)” the post added.

Later, in March, it was revealed that the game would receive an additional investment of $3.5 Million from Bullfrog founder Les Edgar in order to develop the game for next-gen consoles. It was later finalized in September that the game would be released as Early Access for the PC version, via Steam and would be released in Q1 2014.

Similar to the previous games in the series, Carmageddon – Reincarnation, according to the press release, “will reintroduce the gaming public to the anarchic physics playground, where your car is your weapon and the world is awash with crazy power-ups, adrenaline pumping events and mad challenges.”

Neil Barnden, Stainless Co-Founder and Brand Director said, "We're really excited that the world will soon have Carmageddon unleashed upon it again. The good, the bad, and the elderly... they're all fair game on the streets of Bleak City where the cars are carnivores and the cows' bowels are loosening. Max Damage is BACK – and he wants to make a hood ornament out of your granny's giblets!"

As expected, there’s no real story to look forward in the game, but if you’ve done your homework, you’ll know that it will look to pursue its usual crazed gameplay style and mechanics where insanity is the order of the day.

There are a number of cars and drivers that have already been revealed for the game. See below for the list of drivers and their cars:

- Die Anna: The Hawk
- Don Dumpster: The Plow
- Heinz Faust: King Merc
- Kutter: Countslash
- Max Damage: Red Eagle
- Psycho Pitbull: Towmeister
- Screwie Lewie: Twister
- Stig O'Sore: Volkswerker
- The Terrible Twins: Siamese Dream
- Val Hella: Cleaver

Other vehicles in the game include the APC (“The preferred ride of the psychotic donut-munching porker”), the Suppressor, and the CU:NT (little cuddly Compact Unit: Nil Threat cars), with more still to be revealed.

As far as the in-game environment is concerned, the official page confirms that the game’s new environments “are amalgamations of the best bits from the numerous chunks of landscape that we all loved to tear around in Carmageddon.”

“‘Bleak City’, ‘Dusty Trails’, ‘Industrial’ make a return, with their memorable landmark features such as the Loop ’de’ Loop, acid pits and Football Stadium. Everything will be reassuringly surreal; hell, we’ve even managed to incorporate a giant food mixer into a level!”

It adds that the in-game topography and detail in the locations is currently being updated and enhanced, “with even more fun stuff to smash into, smash up, snap off, and send careening into the poor pedestrian population.”

Carmageddon - Reincarnation is currently slated for release on Microsoft Windows, Linux OS X, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, although nothing has been mentioned about releases on current generation consoles.
