She's Molly Ringwald and in case you don't know her you're about to. However, if you're going to be looking for a TV series titled "Archie" tough luck for you.
Why not 'Archie?'
In this day and age you need tons of imagination. Archie and Friends as the carrier banner would spell a traumatic one episode. Heaven knows that happens.
"Riverdale" is the name of the forthcoming series. It is the fictional setting where Archie and his friends live. Meet the whole bunch of America's favorite teens: Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Cheryl, Jason and Moose.
Based on the characters from Archie Comics, "Riverdale" will not have the everything-is-sunny vibe. There is a hint of darkness and weirdness beneath that picture perfect place. Remember the TV series Twin Peaks? That's what they're going to have here.
Set to have its premiere on Thursday, Jan. 26, at 9 p.m. ET/PT we would not only get to know Archie and the gang but we would also meet Molly Ringwald, a recurring character, playing Archie's mom Mary Andrews.
Significance of Ringwald
Molly Ringwald had always been a famous redhead. Her talent is something Generation X is aware of. Among her contemporaries she's one of those whose career survived. From the '80s "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" she is now making her presence felt for the Millenials, Gen Y, iGen, Gen Z and the Centennials. The choice of Ringwald to play Archie's mom is a good move. Welcome back to the world of the living Gen X!
K.J. Apa would play Archie, Camila Mendes as Veronica, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl and Ashleigh Murray as Josie. Another treat for Gen X is Luke Perry who's going to play Archie's dad Fred.
