Madden NFL 13 Vs NCAA 13: Madden Is Breaking Sales Records

Electronic Arts hit the hole and is running towards a large pile of cash in the endzone. In the seven days since Madden NFL 13's release, the publisher has reported sales of 1.65 million units for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360-an eight percent increase over last year titles.

"We're thrilled to see the great momentum continuing on Madden NFL 13," Andrew Wilson, of EA Sports Executive VP said. "The overwhelming feedback is that this is the best Madden NFL game in a generation. Fans are competing in record numbers, and we expect those numbers to only grow as fans connect with their favorite NFL teams and players through our game."

Madden NFL '13, which features Detroit Lion Calvin Johnson on the cover, broke records for day one retail sales, day one online usage rate and is has received general higher scores than previous titles released during the current generation of consoles.

According to figures released by EA, players have logged the equivalent of 47,000 NFL games in the one-week since the game launched on Aug. 28. There have been 24 million Madden games played on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the daily average users have increased by 14 percent.

"As we approach the kickoff of the NFL season, the football community is whetting their appetites by playing Madden NFL 13 in record numbers," Wilson said. "With the combination of the cutting-edge Infinity Engine and new Connected Careers fans are truly getting their football fix with the best Madden NFL game ever."

EA's other football title the college based NCAA Football '13 continues to suffer in the sales department. The game's sales are down 12 percent from its first month. NCAA Football '13's overall sales for launce were down by 95,000 units over the same period from a year ago.

NCAA '13 actually had it second-best PlayStation 3 launch in the franchise's history, shipping 303,000 units. But the game suffered from a decline of nearly 50,000 units sold on the Xbox 360.
