‘Days Of Our Lives’ Cancellation News On NBC: What’s Next For The Show? Series Villain Joseph Mascolo Dies At 87

Set in the town of Salem, "Days Of Our Lives" is a long-running soap opera that follows the triumphs and tragedies of the Horton, Brady and DiMera families. Love and family stories intertwine with more suspenseful stories, intensifying up the drama. Love triangles, murder, amnesia, rape, divorce, and other staples of the afternoon soap opera abound.

"Days of Our Lives" cancellation news is becoming a hot topic on social media, as several reports claimed that the NBC soap opera is reaching its lowest in ratings. And just days ago as reported by Fox News, Joseph Mascolo who plays as the series villain Stefano DiMera, died at the age of 87.

The "Days of Our Lives" arch-villain played endless mind games and rose from the dead several times. Despite his somewhat grim character, a spokesman has described him as a big old bear with a puppy-dog heart. He died after battling Alzheimer's disease for the past eight years. "Days of Our Lives" is rumored to be reaching its end on TV due to a continuous drop in ratings. According to TV Series Finale, Season 51 has received an average of 0.70 rating in the 18-49 demographics, which is 7.28 percent lower than the previous season.

"Days of Our Lives" Season 51 was able to pull in an average of 2.398 million viewers during its current season. This was significantly lower than other soap operas such as "The Bold and the Beautiful," "The Young and the Restless" and "General Hospital."

As most viewers know, a show's rating is one of the major factors taken into consideration when deciding on the fate of a TV series. With "Days of Our Lives'" ratings continuously dropping, it is believed that it is only a matter of time before NBC ultimately decides to pull the plug on one of the longest running shows on air.
